Robbie Keane made a last-minute deadline day loan from Tottenham Hotspurs to Celtic. Of course, when players move, appearing before 5,000 welcoming fans, they tend to say the have fulfilled their lifelong ambition and all that shit. Ditto Robbie, that he fulfilled his boyhood dream – except that many thought he already did 19 months ago.

He declared as he appeared before the fans: “I’ve been a Celtic fan for years and always wanted to play for them. I’ve dreamed of this moment.”

Just after joining Liverpool, the Irishman had said: “I am a Liverpool fan. Joining Liverpool is a lifelong dream.”

Evidently, he needs little persuasion joining his “childhood” clubs.

“They are a massive club and, as a Celtic fan, I didn’t need much persuading to come here.”

A year ago, as he joined Liverpool: “They are a massive club and, as a fan, they didn’t have to sell themselves to Robbie Keane.”

Seems like he has plenty of clubs he is a fan of. Should be expecting more of the same when he signs for Cork City.

Who said footballers were daft from all that heading?

Chris Innes is fighting for the honour of the world’s dumbest player as he trudged to the dressing room after being sent off for a second yellow card – although he had NOT already been booked.

The St Mirren defender received his marching orders from referee Steve Conroy after he gave away a penalty by handling in the box in the 3-1 defeat at Celtic. Innes did not bat an eyelid as Conroy reached into his pocket to issue a caution… followed by a red card.

His team-mates convinced the ref that Innes should still be on the pitch. He rushed back out in time to see keeper Paul Gallagher save the resulting spot-kick and deny Scott McDonald a hat-trick.

Gallacher said: “I’d never seen anything like that in my life. It was a weird couple of minutes. To be fair, the ref held his hands up and admitted it was his error.

“He quickly changed his decision… but Chris was well off the park by then. It was freezing out there so I don’t blame him.”

Innes is not only daft, afraid of the cold, he is just pure unlucky. He had earlier already deflected a McDonald shot into the net after 39 minutes.
