Ryan Giggs has suffered the effects of the phenomenon known as the Streisand effect after requesting a High Court order asking Twitter to reveal details of users who had revealed his identity as the footballer who had an affair with Imogen Thomas.
Thousands of Twitter users have reacted to Ryan Giggs’ bid to find out who is putting information about him on the website by posting the following tweet that it is not trending as one of the top tweets:
“Ryan Giggs is suing twitter. I can’t Imogen why”
This came as a user recently set up a Twitter account unmasking Ryan Giggs as the one having an affair with Imogen Thomas

Obviously Giggs is being milked for more money by his lawyers who are advising him to take more action but it has to be clear to him that this is only generating more interest around the World (cue the Streisand effect), and the best he can wish for now is just for the super injunction to stay, though with the Internet nearly everyone can now find out who he has been shagging on the way to another title.
It remains to be seen if such a court order will hold fort since it was issued in England, and Twitter is primarily based in the US.

About the Streisand effect
The Streisand effect is a primarily online phenomenon in which an attempt to hide or remove a piece of information has the unintended consequence of publicizing the information more widely.
