Roy Keane has been known to be a menacing terror on the pitch, and as Manchester United captain, always gave team-mates who threw a wayward pass the stare. His latest press conference proved to be rich pickings for the journalists in attendance. Not only was he very outspoken in his criticism of the Republic of Ireland’s protests over Thierry Henry’s handball, he also took the opportunity to petrify some of them.

He gave his famous death stare to one reporter whose phone rang (twice according to Keane). The genius of a journalist insisted on letting the mobile ring.
The Ipswich manager also turned on a journalist who laughed as he recalled his woes with the Football Association of Ireland prior to the 2002 World Cup.

Roy Keane had said about Ireland’s complaints: “Ireland had their chances in the two games, and they never took them. But it’s the usual FAI reaction – ‘We’ve been robbed, the honesty of the game.’ There was one match against Georgia where Ireland got a penalty and it was one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen which changed the whole course of the game. I don’t remember the FAI after the game saying we should give them a replay.”
