This post has been a month overdue, with the draft stated at October 2nd. Many things have happened in the interlude, but I’ve finally managed to dig out some free time to get this entry up.
This post also gives me an excellent opportunity to work on SEO ; ) … so in actual fact the timing of the post has been great.
===== Written a month ago =====
It has been a whirlwind month, starting a new job and getting another set of exams out of the way.
In all honesty, I had never envisaged myself at where I am 9 months ago. It was a time of relaxation after non-stop working since my O’Levels. A time to seek a new direction on whether to try to revitalize my websites, or simply concentrate on graduating and then seeking out a new career path altogether. Of course, along the way, many things happened that twisted my direction left and right.
==========================
It seems I was destined to return to what I do best, to where I made my mini fortune. When an opportunity comes knocking, you stop and ponder, weigh up the pros and cons, then take a gamble. A gamble on one’s career might not seem exactly like the best bet, but this was an unique opportunity to partake in probably what will revolutionize the tyre industry in Singapore. An impact as monumental as an earthquake? Not exactly an impossible task considering what the company set out to achieve.
Monetary-wise, it might not be financially rewarding as a job in the sales or banking industry, but enough for me not to starve. Is a corporate life of shirts & ties exactly the kind of lifestyle I would drag myself off the bed everyday for? With political survival and steadfast backstabbing a daily staple? Personally, I never liked the rigidness that many corporates have, and as glamorous as many of them might sound, the reality is that the backroom is not all that flash. The right mix of control and flexibility, I believe is key to getting the best out of employees.
Even though it means having to do a lot of the little things personally, I’m actually cool with it, for the the knowledge that I can learn lots more from such an experience would stand me in good stead, learning the tools of the trade would provide me with an edge when I do eventually set up my own company one day. Opportunities to visit the likes of eBay are also an eye-opener, damn what of Google?
What I can safely say is that I am definitely enjoying my job, and even though it takes over an hour just to get to work, I am actually motivated to get there (though the rainy days are tempting me to sleep in more). I have always been in the belief that one should take up a job more for the interest, and to do something they like, rather than taking monetary rewards as priority. My belief has so far been proven right, and in terms of enjoying your job as you go along, it also means you are motivated to work harder and excel in it.
