Its been nearly a year since I last posted a movie review on my blog, and I felt inclined to post another review of another blockbuster.

Rating: 9/10

Review:

If Batman Begins was the appetizer, The Dark Knight would jolly well have been the main course. Sparingly, its undoubtedly the darkest, gripping Batman piece.

Touching on the cast first, Christian Bale is undeniably cementing his place as the best Batman ever, his performance consistent and steadfast. I loved Aaron Eckhart in Thank You for Smoking, and he was alright for me, nothing outstanding. The rest of the cast all did their parts as per expected from veterans, Michael Cainem Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman.

Again, Batman was hardly about the babes, and Maggie Gyllenhaal was definitely a stronger actress than Katie Holmes, though it wasn’t all that significant to me. What was significant though, was the villian that stood out amongst all.

Heath Ledger, ever so dedicated to his role he spent an entire month in seclusion, preparing for his role delivered a masterclass in villian-stry (or how to play a villian). It should not be because of his death that he should receive a posthumous Oscar, I would give one to him straight away for I believe he would win it hands down. Many had speculated that it was reprising this role that led to his death, and I can understand why, for he seems so immersed in his role of the near psychotic Joker.

Cinematography is dynamically realistic, car chases, building leaps, all fantastic details. The legendry Hans Zimmer is at the helm for the score, and brilliant screenplay by director Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonathan.

Undoubtedly the best Batman film ever, possibly the best superhero film ever and the best film of 2008 thus far.
