Very soon, iPhone subscribers won’t be tied down to a monopoly of a telco network, a teenager named George Hotz made headlines on Friday as the 17-year-old from New Jersey informed the world of a little project that he and four others have worked on. Specifically, how to unlock an iPhone and use it on T-Mobile’s wireless network. Hotz posted instructions on his blog, http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com.

Another group, called iPhoneSIMfree.com said it had developed a piece of software that, when installed on an iPhone, allows the use of rival mobile services such as T-Mobile, according to widely followed technology blog Engadget.com.
