Jully eventually decided to go for an Acer laptop, and thus waded through the last-minute mayhem at the PC Fair to get his. Alas, in less than a couple of hours, whilst installing a program, the laptop crashed, with the dreaded blue screen of death. Reboots and shutdowns didn’t work, and with neither a recovery CD in sight, it seems the Acer recovery centre is in sight.

Technically, he had only used the laptop for barely 3 hours, and was in the midst of installing programs. Well, if you were considering getting an Acer laptop, that is food for thought and a gauge of how long it might last. Sealed

Vista has a great and smooth interface, but the compatibility issues and other niggling minor glitches are a detrimental factor, my advice for now is to stick with the stable-r XP.

Oh, and after an entire day of trying to get through the Acer hotline, I still can’t get through. Guess we are not the only ones with problems.
